Just the FAQs
The following are a few of the many
questions we get about the new AMERICAN BOXER
R&D, LLC T-5.
Q:
What tranny is the basis for the Corvair 5 speed?
A: The
Borg Warner T-5. A double H pattern 5 speed overdrive transmission that
saw commercial service in the Cosworth Vega, Camaro, Mustang, and Chevy
S-10 trucks, to name a few of it's many applications.
Q: Which
Corvairs does it fit?
A: Right
now we are manufacturing our kits for late cars. Watch Boxer
Briefs for information on new products, including news on a possible
early overdrive!
Q: How
much modification is required?
A: The transmission
itself bolts to the stock differential with no clutch modifications
required. The kit also includes a welded steel mounting
bracket that requires no drilling or welding to install. You will
have to cut a small part of the floor out under the back seat to allow
room for the overdrive. A template is included in the installation kit.
There is an above floor version of
the shift linkage and a below the floor version. Depending on which one
you opt for, the necessary modifications will be outlined in the
installation manual. We are working on diagrams that will show changes
to the stock back seat frame, allowing you to retain a totally stock
appearance.
Q: What
are the gear ratios, and which is best for me?
A:
We have put together a chart
to show you the ratios we will feature in our T-5A, T-5B, and special
order T-5C models. Please fill out our T-5
recommendation questionnaire, and let us suggest the best for you.
Q:
What's included when I buy one?
A: You
get a freshly rebuilt, highly modified, ready to bolt in AMERICAN
BOXER R&D, LLC T-5, all the hardware, nuts,
bolts, and brackets to install it. The shift linkage option of your
choosing, diagrams and templates to aid in the installation, and a
completely new Corvair driving experience.
Q: Where
do I get one, and how much are they?
A: Clark's
Corvair Parts made a special arrangement to sell ten units, on a
first come, first served basis, for an incredible introductory price of
$2295.00, including free shipping. Clark's has sold all ten of those
units. Linn Richardson is working on another run of ten units, to be
priced at around $3,000.00,
depending on kit options. Contact Linn at (425) 485-9807 to check on the
availability.
